Happy Birthday me! For a birthday present to myself I felt like tackling the main portfolio requirement for CCS in Vermont. Not that this is the cartooning school I would want to go to if I had money, just a more rounded portfolio expectation so I used it as a model.
A minimum two-page comic story starring yourself, a snowman, a robot, and a piece of fruit… ha I put a lot of work into this, but never finished it to the last page. That is ok though. I learned a lot, and had way too much fun and frustration go into two weeks of writing and drawing.
The story is was basically about a lonely old robot designer who lacked any creativity what-so-ever, all his robots were lame and humble household objects made into robots. Everything is completely uncreative except for his freezer which animates miniature snowman to be guided by an equally miniature robot in a quest to make fruit salads.
And then myself in the comic would actually be the freezer labeled “Kyle 22” which says “Thank you, have a fantastic day!” every time the old designer takes out a fruit salad. I say that line WAY TOO much at work (a gas station) and I often feel people see me saying it robotic - when in reality I say it quite earnestly as why I say “fantastic!” with a smile.
I’m really content with what I have drawn and written and probably will not do anything else with this comic and these characters as I really want to move on to new portfolio projects.
